3/27 - Adoption Day!!
Well, it is 5:30 pm and we have our little girl !! The day could not have gone better. I prayed and prayed for a smooth transition, but I never imagined it would be this good. XiaoTing ran into the room with a big smile and said "Baba (Dad) and MaMa(Mom". We all said NeHou (Hello) and shoke hands. Sarah then gave her the Ling doll that we had bought at the Chinese New Year Celebration (she speaks various phrases in English and Chinese) and she caught on real quick as to how to push her hands and knee to get her to talk. She has been smiling and giggling all day since then. She has gone to the bathroom several times (by herself, she won't let us help, very independent) and we lift her to wash her hands.
The day started at the CA office with some paperwork and the offical adoption certificate. We met one caregiver and one official from Hami who were with her. They had come by train (8 hour ride overnight) and had been in town several days (we are in Urumqi). So she is used to the hotel and is getting used to the potty. We then went and got pictures (Xiao's for the passport and Steve and I with her for other forms). We took a break and came back to the hotel for lunch. She ate a big plateful of food !! Apple, beef, rice, chicken. She is very independent and does not want any help. We then layed down and took a short nap. She took her own boots off and layed right down and slept. I didn't cry until then, but as I saw her napping, the tears started. We are truly blessed.
We then went to apply for the passport. More paperwork. Sarah and Xiao colored. She likes to imitate what Sarah draws. Right now they are blowing bubbles, she thinks this is great fun.
So far, so good. We tried to watch a DVD (Little Mermaid cartoon in Mandarin), but she didn't sit for very long. I guess the attention span is not very long. She is very curious, takes out cards and looks and then very carefully places them back. We bought her new shoes and she was very excited to put them on. She seems very smart. She had a bag with things from the orphanage and we put them in a new backpack. I had been lugging around a backpack all day with snacks and paperwork. She figured out all by herself how to put the backpack on. She wanted to copy me. We have already gotten several hugs and kisses. She is a most happy girl with a great smile and giggle. I can't believe how great the transition has gone so far !! I had prepared for the worst and prayed for the best and God has blessed us far.
