4-16 update

Happy Easter to all !! A joyous day indeed. The Lord is risen and saved and so are we.

We are now home a little over a week. Things are settling in nicely. Katherine (she is now answering to that and to XiaoTing) is generally a happy little girl. It is challenging to keep her busy, as she does not like to watch DVD's (even the Manderin ones) and she is an energy girl. Luckily the weather has been nice, so we have been playing outside (she love to play with balls - she can dribble a basketball already !!) and going to various playgrounds in the area. She also loves legos and stickers, so those can keep her busy as well. She will also play on the computer for short periods. It is tough in some ways because we can't do the stuff you would normally do with a 5 1/2 year old due to the language barrier. But I'm sure it will get better over time.

She does have a few meltdowns a day. Sometimes it is when we are trying to teach her something (like sharing with Sarah or the neighbor kids), sometimes we are not sure why. Last night she went to bed fine, but woke up about 9:45 just crying. She cried for at least 15 minutes and I rocked her back to sleep. It is tough when you can't ask her what is wrong. She then came into our bedroom about 1:30 a.m., so I let her jump in bed with Steve and I. Not the most comfortable, but what are you going to do?

She and Sarah are getting along better. They are able to play independently. Sarah continues to try to bond with her by playing, reading, tickling, whatever. I think it is getting better every day. Katherine is still learning about family, rules, sharing, sister, etc.

Steve and I and Sarah have this week off and then back to school and work. Steve and I will each work part time, so one of us will be home the whole summer with the girls. We are looking forward to that. We hope Katherine handles that well. I go back next Monday, so we'll see how that goes. She seems ok when one of us leaves or one of us takes her someplace for some time, but not sure how a whole day will go.

I feel like my house is a mess - I just caught up with getting unpacking and organizing the stuff we brought back, plus the paperwork. We have a doctor's appointment for Katherine on Thursday for a checkup, etc. We have a bunch of post adoption paperwork and things we need to do. So, I guess my house is what it is for awhile while we contine to settle in.

Overall, I think things are going very well. Katherine has a very happy personality, though she is definately stubborn and independent as well. I have read horror stories about adjustments in kids this age, so I know it could be alot worse.

Blessed Easter,
Marie

    Hi Marie,

I’ve enjoyed keeping up with your adventure to China and getting back home with your precious little girl. What a blessing, a gift from God for both you, Steve and Sarha, as well as for Xiao Ting. I will keep you in my prayers. God's Peace to you all. Tom O.
