6-6 Update

Things are going pretty well. We are settling into a routine (which will change soon when summer vacation rolls around). Katherine seems to say or learn new things every day. We went up to our cabin over Memorial day and she seemed pretty sad for the first part of the ride. We are guessing she did not understand where we were going - maybe she thought we were taking her somewhere to leave her?? Anyway, she and Sarah had a blast once we got up there. She went for a go cart ride with Daddy and bumper cars with me. She and Sarah even got wet in the river. It was sooo hot up there. The river was pretty high (past Sarah's knees) and the current is pretty strong, but we had a life vest on Katherine. She fell in once and got scared and cried, but then went back in (pretty brave, I think).

Katherine has a great friend next door. Her name is Hailey and she is 4 1/2, but very mature for her age. She and Katherine generally get along great, though they do have their moments, as any small kids will. But we can usually get through those. Hailey's mom, Becky, is wonderful to Katherine. We thank God for her patience and understanding. It is so nice that she has a playmate - we never had any kids Sarah's age in the neighborhood.

Katherine still has her crying times. On Friday night, Sarah and I went to a dance recital for Emily Kassens. I was with Katherine all day and she was fine - we had a great day. But poor Steve got stuck with crabby girl - she had about three crying times. He finally just put her to bed in her clothes ! We've never done that before.

She also had a bad day yesterday as far as injuries. She fell off her bike in the morning riding with Steve and got scraped up. She caught her arm in her bedroom door later in the day and got a big bruise. Then, she ran into me biking and fell off and the handle bar hit her eye - big bruise there as well. Thank goodness we don't have an appointment with the social worker or she might wonder what is going on !!

For this summer - We have Katherine signed up for a kindergarten orientation class this summer. It is for about a month starting the end of June for four days a week for three hours a day. We're not sure if she is ready to leave us for that long, but we want to give it a try.Sarah is signed up for Camp Invention, basketball camp at CMH, soccer camp at Waukesha South and I am looking into a goalie camp for her as well. We also plan to go up north over Father's day weekend and again for 4th of July. Between all this, I'm sure the summer will go fast. It will be fun for Steve and I to be home during the week with the girls and hopefully we can also do some swimming and relaxing, etc. We are both part time through the end of summer, so one of us will be home with them. We've never been home with Sarah over the summer - I think we will like it.

A few weeks ago, some of the mom's from Sarah's 4th grade class threw a surprise shower for Katherine and me. It was soooo awesome. They sent a fake invite saying is was a birthday party for one of the dad's. I was totally suprised. Sarah and Steve were in on it and kept the secret really well. They had a taco bar and drinks and the kids from Sarah's class were there. Katherine fit in just fine - she played with the kids. She got some great presents - outfits, books, gardening tools, a chair for outside, a cool water sprinkler. One of the mom's also gave Sarah and Katherine matching shirts. And, the moms gave me a gift certificate to the Serenity day spa. I am still overwhelmed when I think of their generosity in doing this. Apparently, they had been planning this since January. How awesome and thank God for these nice people !

Pictures on the next post.
